Vegetation Woody Cover
Benchmark Value
Scoring Curve
This curve shows how a field measurement for this indicator would score across all available benchmark forms in this context.
Evidence & Context
The alpine zone is a mosaic of treeless communities: tall alpine herbfields, tussock grasslands, bogs, and heathlands. Woody species in this zone are restricted to "ground-hugging" forms and dwarfed shrubs, typically under one meter in height.
Vegetation Woody Cover (VWC) as the percentage of ground area covered by woody vegetation in the alpine zone
Woody cover is naturally sparse in the alpine zone due to climatic constraints and snow persistence.
