The benchmark aligns with the lower, healthier end of the national default guideline value (DGV) range for lowland rivers in south-east Australia (6–50 NTU), confirming its consistency with the national water quality management framework. Extremely low turbidity (< 5 NTU) is indicative of a highly stable and healthy catchment and is the aspirational goal of best-practice management. A clear upper detrimental threshold exists at > 50 NTU, indicating a highly disturbed and ecologically impaired system.
