Ground Cover - Tree Canopy
Benchmark Value
Scoring Curve
This curve shows how a field measurement for this indicator would score across all available benchmark forms in this context. The scoring engine uses 9 benchmarks together — the OptimalRange form drives the primary score, while 8 guard(s) constrain the result.
Evidence & Context
Lower Critical Threshold: A tree canopy cover below approximately 5-10% represents a critical structural and functional threshold.
Tree Canopy Cover is the projected foliage cover of trees within the ecosystem.
The lower critical boundary below which the system loses its woodland structure.
Below this level, the ecosystem transitions from a woodland to a 'Derived Native Grassland.' While these grasslands can have significant conservation value, they lack the key functional attributes provided by a tree canopy.
