Water Turbidity
Benchmark Value
Scoring Curve
This curve shows how a field measurement for this indicator would score across all available benchmark forms in this context. The scoring engine uses 11 benchmarks together — the OptimalRange form drives the primary score, while 10 guard(s) constrain the result.
Evidence & Context
Ideally, samples should have <5 NTU turbidity
Turbidity is formally defined as an optical measure of water clarity, quantifying the degree to which light is scattered by suspended particles.
An 'ideal' value for achieving good-to-excellent water quality and protecting sensitive aquatic fauna.
Derived from a peer-reviewed study of Victorian mountain streams, which are analogous to the high-integrity headwater systems within the target biome, and corroborated by the ACT Waterwatch program and ANZECC (2000) guidelines.
