Scoring Curve

This curve shows how a field measurement for this indicator would score across all available benchmark forms in this context.

Evidence & Context

Upper Detrimental Threshold: While some savanna soils are naturally alkaline, an increase in pHw significantly above the natural range for a given soil type (e.g., exceeding pHw ~7.5 on typically acidic/neutral soils, or pHw >8.5-9.0 generally, particularly if induced by disturbances like tree clearing) can be detrimental.

Metric Definition:

Soil pH measured in a 1:5 soil:water suspension (pHw)

Benchmark Definition:

This benchmark marks the upper detrimental soil pH threshold above which ecosystem health in tropical monsoonal savannas under livestock grazing is negatively impacted.

Justification:

Elevations above this pH can reduce micronutrient availability and cause nutrient imbalances, negatively impacting ecosystem balance.
