Evidence & Context
Upper Detrimental Threshold: This is a management-induced state of degradation, not merely saturation. It occurs when saturated soils are subjected to livestock pressure, causing pugging, compaction, anaerobic conditions, and nutrient loss.
A functional state where soil moisture levels at or above Field Capacity combined with livestock pressure cause soil degradation.
The upper detrimental threshold is defined by the interaction of saturated soil moisture at or above Field Capacity and livestock pressure leading to pugging and soil degradation.
This threshold is not a natural limit but a management-induced failure state, supported by evidence of pugging and compaction impacts in grazed pastures.
