Notes

This benchmark is more protective than the general WQO for developed catchments (<15 NTU) but more realistic than pristine upland stream objectives (<5 NTU). There is no meaningful lower critical threshold; lower turbidity is always better, approaching natural background levels. The upper detrimental threshold is at 15 NTU where significant ecological harm begins. Additional context: The benchmark value of 10 NTU should therefore be interpreted within this context. It is not an "optimum" to be targeted, but rather the upper boundary of an acceptable, high-health condition for a well-managed site.
