Soil pH
Benchmark Value
Scoring Curve
This curve shows how a field measurement for this indicator would score across all available benchmark forms in this context. The scoring engine uses 13 benchmarks together — the OptimalRange form drives the primary score, while 12 guard(s) constrain the result.
Evidence & Context
Conditions below pH 4.5 represent a state of significant ecosystem degradation and compromised long-term health.
Soil pH
The minimum soil pH threshold below which significant ecosystem degradation and compromised long-term health occur.
Below this threshold, the concentration of soluble aluminum ions (Al3+) increases sharply. This is directly toxic to the fine roots of many plants, inhibiting nutrient and water uptake and stunting growth.
